The Substance Film

Director Coralie Fargeat's unflinching commentary addresses the oppressive nature of feminine aesthetics as well as the feared consequences of advancing years. The veteran actress offers a masterful portrayal playing Elisabeth, a 50-year-old celebrity demoted to hosting an aerobics show on TV. Pushed out by her unscrupulous employer Harvey, she turns to an enigmatic and horrifying procedure titled this experimental method. This generates a younger clone called Sue, resulting in a steadily more vampiric relationship among both women. This Friday, Paramount Plus

The Woman in Cabin 10

This Agatha Christie-esque story features Knightley in the role of Laura, an ace reporter who opts for a hiatus from reporting on world issues to join a high-end voyage alongside an ailing wealthy inheritor and charitable figure, her husband, plus additional affluent guests. However when an unknown lady falls into the sea one night and the entire crew insists she wasn't real, her journalistic curiosity kick in. Available now, Netflix

This Supernatural Story

Soderbergh tests his creative boundaries with this nifty paranormal narrative captured wholly from the perspective of a ghost. When a household including mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe settles into their new suburban house, the filming device – as the unseen entity – follows them around. Chloe seems aware of the supernatural presence, and the entity appears protective of her. But why? The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, including a revelation that may be unexpected. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, the Sky channel

Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy

Cage wholeheartedly adopts his eccentric image in this meta comedy caper. He acts as a self-obsessed celebrity named Nicolas Cage who accepts a million-dollar gig to attend a birthday party at a Mediterranean location for the rich Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Contacted by the CIA to investigate the potential kingpin, Cage's unconventional method is put to the test. October 11th, prime time, on Channel 4

The Black Phone Horror

The director's claustrophobic thriller holds up well even without a continuation. Set in 1978 Denver, multiple kidnappings has made the children anxious. After Finney is taken by the villain and held captive in a dungeon, he anticipates the worst. Yet the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with ghostly voices offering help, and the prophetic visions of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. A genuinely scary movie. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, on Film4

The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the battle between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for Mammon in this director's wonderfully garish film adaptation regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who states early on, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye begin capitalizing on the people's religious faith. It's a spectacle of poor styling, bad makeup and hypocrisy, yet Jessica Chastain achieves to depict Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, early morning, on Film4

This Espionage Thriller

This period's additional entry by the same director delivers a spy mystery as sharp like the turtlenecks sported by Michael Fassbender's British agent. He receives a mission to identify a traitor inside the organization from a group of five – including is his spouse. The two stars are masters of calm composure, so a delicious mental battle of truth or lie takes place. Additional actors join in the clever spy entertainment. This Friday, various showings, Sky Cinema Premiere
